Chico is a Pathfinder, a 5.25m wooden open sailing boat designed by John Welsford (www.jwboatdesigns.co.nz). This boat was built by Peter Murton of Murton's Timbercraft (https://murtons.co.nz). I have build a couple of boats previously and was looking forward to building the Pathfinder myself, however for health reasons this was not possible.
Chico was launched on 25 March 2020 and performed fantastically.
Sean, Kieran and JJ on a sunny spring day.
Kieran and friends on a warm day with a decent breeze.
Jaime, Claire and me on a very gentle spring day!
Just enough wind to get about.
Jaime and Leigh very kindly took me for a saiI on Chico.
The wind was a steady 35kph. Very good fun.
Jaime and I got to take Chico for a mid winter sail.
The main was double reefed as the forecast suggested gusts to 30kph.
Just marvellous to get out.
Steve and I got to take Chico out in a stiff breeze!
It wind was ranging from 30-40kph, which was a very good test. The main was fully reefed and the jib furled to around 50%. We were able to easily tack up the harbour from the marina to the Nelson Yacht Club.
Lots of fun!
Jaime and I got to take Chico out in a bit of a breeze!
I am very happy with how the boat handled. Probably should have put a reef in the main though ;-)
Finally Chico hits the water again, the first day after the COVID19 lock down.
It was a calm day, but with beautiful autumn weather.
